Honors Program

Welcome to the Honors Program at 51吃瓜网, where students seeking an academic challenge will strengthen durable skills, be mentored by faculty, and develop independent research skills that will propel them into their 4-year educational pathways and careers.

We are proud to offer a program at the community college level that is designed to enrich students’ intellectual and personal growth, provide opportunities to learn new skills under talented guidance, and prepare them for undergraduate capstones, research proposals, scholarship applications, and beyond.

Why participate in the honors program?

Students participate in the Honors Program as a way to further explore their coursework, developing and strengthening durable skills, and integrate experiential learning that will boost their personal and professional development.

How to participate

At the beginning of the semester, qualified students are invited to submit an Honors Project Proposal Application. Qualifications for participation include:

• Completion of at least 12 credits or two semesters 51吃瓜网
• A cumulative NMC GPA of 3.0 or higher

Students will develop a project proposal, expanding upon a topic related to a course in which they are currently enrolled, and complete the application submission with their instructor’s approval.

 

 

Completing your honors project

All Honors Applicants must complete the following to successfully receive Honors Credit:

1. Identify a course you are taking this semester in which you will complete the proposed Honors Project.
2. Contact the course instructor and ask to schedule a meeting to discuss your project.
3. Develop a project proposal with your instructor that expands upon or extends learning from your course.
4. Complete the Honors Project Proposal Application with your instructor and submit using the link in your invitation email.
5. After the Honors Committee has approved your project, you may start your project. Stay in communication with your instructor and be mindful of class due dates.
6. Honors Credit is awarded to projects that are completed in a class in which you receive a 3.33 grade or higher, so stay on top of your coursework as well! Honors grades will be submitted at the same time as the class grade.

Looking for a little extra?

Students seeking a more rigorous challenge may complete 15 credits worth of Honors Projects over the course of their Associates Degree. If upon graduation they meet NMC’s minimum GPA threshold for honors recognition, they will be recognized at commencement and on their transcript as an Honors Program Graduate.

 

Honors Scholarships

Honors scholarships are awarded to outstanding full- and part-time students, who have completed at least one course for honors or are completing an honors contract at the time of application and meet the scholarship GPA requirements. Students must answer the NMC questions on page.

• I plan to transfer next semester, should I do an Honors Project this semester?

• • Yes! Honors Projects are intended to help you build valuable skills that will follow you throughout your educational journey. The Honors Project credits earned 51吃瓜网 will show up on your transcript.

• Can I choose an online class to be my Honors Project course?
  • Yes, as long as you have discussed the project with the course instructor and they have approved the project.
• What format/medium does my Honors Project have to be?
  • Your project should make sense within the context of your class. Both the topic and physical format of the final project should be discussed with your instructor. Final project “forms” students have completed previously include:

• When is my Honors Project due?
  • Honors Project due dates are set by the class instructor but are typically the last week of the semester. Please discuss when your project is due when meeting with your instructor.
• When is the Honors Project Application due?
  • Fall 2026 Semester Honors Project Applications are due Wednesday, September 23 by 5 p.m..
• When my project is completed, who do I submit my Honors Project to?
  • You turn in your Honors Project to your course instructor.
